Spinelli, caught by Ben Ritchie off Dan Green's bowling.  But Robin had a batsmen up his sleeves, Alan Brown scored 108 not out after being dropped twice early on in his innings - once off Green's and then Redman's bowling.  Click here for pictures of the day.

5th July 2002 - Mears Ashby throw down gauntlet!

Mears Ashby have thrown down a challenge to Hanslope for this Sunday's (perhaps not so) friendly, copy of text from Mears Ashby follows;

Dear All,

Have you seen that our Arch Sunday cricketing rivals, and their
evil skipper Jonathan De Funnell have launched their own web
site. A very good effort too, but I can't wait for our contest
with them next year on the cricket pitch.

Their site is located at www.hanslopecc.com

I'd love it if we beat them really love it, I just know my
favourite player Jonny Bennett is going to put them to the sword
with his maverick batting, putting one over the evil De Funnell
and his nasty sledging tactics. He calls it mental
disintegration of the opposition you know.

Yours,

John Maverick Batsmanship Bennett Jnr (name changed by depoll)

Sunday's fixture against Willen saw two personal bests set by HCC.  Mark Redman was first, playing his first game of the season, scored 26 with Hanslope chasing Willen's total of 201.  Once Mark had been bowled it was then the turn of Peter Firth and with Hanslope requiring a run rate of 8 an over Firth smashed 17 before being caught behind.

Hanslope lost the game after Jim Petrie was run out by Steve Ritchie for a 'Golden Duck', with Steve quick to follow.  Dan Green was 7 not out whilst Charlie Warmsley scored 1 run before being bowled.  Losing the game also saw Steve Ritchie's 100% matching winning record as captain, it now stands as 50%!  Earlier in the game both Matthew Pell and Barry Iseton batted superbly with Barry also taking 4 wickets, Dan Green and Paul Redman also bowled well collecting a wicket each.  Barry Iseton was later installed as man of the match.
