Past Greats
Richard Turvey
Richard 'The Swerve' Turvey, was an underrated performer, but during the 1990's he was a key player and whole hearted member of both the League and Friendly sides.
Curbing his natural aggressive instincts he was a batsmen who was at his happiest when encamped for long periods out in the middle. Commentators have often argued that opening the batting with Richard, was a key factor in the infamous 'Six day match' at Wheatleys, an event that even today perplexes schoolchildren and scholars alike.
Particularly excelling off his legs, he worked hard on his batting ability and developed an impeccable technique that would very occasionally allow him to hit the ball off the square.
A fieldsman of unflinching quality he quickly established the position of silly mid -off as his own. Such was his ability and stunning reflexes that even today the position is fondly referred to in most HCC textbooks as the 'Turv' position or 'Certain Injury' position.
